Year 2: Semester 2

For the 2nd Semester of my 2nd Year of the Bachelor of Business: Information and Knowledge Management course I completed more classes than in the previous semesters. I completed the following:

Business Analysis I found to be a useless class. I have not used anything that I learnt in that class in any of my placements or other classes since completing it. The assignments were badly structured and made learning difficult. I also found that the lectures did not match up to the tutorials and that made my learning more difficult. I received an average mark for this class.

Desktop Publishing was one of my electives. It was in interesting course, and I did end up learning many things about Microsoft publisher for the duration of the course. I did not receive very high marks in this course however, as I am not very creative or artistic and found it hard to come up with designs for this assignments (creating posters and brochures). What I did find though was that I am very good at using the software and if I ever need to fix something using Microsoft publisher for someone or have a need to create advertising for work I will be able to do it with ease if I have a little creative input from my colleagues.

Knowledge Management Environments 2 involved the creation of a collaboration wiki in groups for a organisation. I worked with Aida, Julia and Shannon for this assignment. It was really interesting to do as we found out that if people do not use the wiki for collaboration and just keep their ideas to themselves it is not a very useful tool. Wikis are only good if they are used in the right way and that the users know how to utilize the wiki. Collaboration tools are becoming very important in the work place, and after doing this class I have found that I am using these tools more and more in the workplace, it was a very relevant and interesting class.

Prices and Markets was very much like Macroeconomics. Though I found it to be easier to understand the concepts presented in this class compared to Macro. I passed this class easily and did not have any major problems with it. What I found made the difference was having the past exams to go over before my final exam. It made it so I was aware of what kind of questions to expect on the exam. The head lecturer of this class was lovely and very helpful in explaining the terms and equations used. I managed to just get through this course with a PASS.

Careers that work was a extra subject that I did over the winter break to make space to redo Macroeconomic in my last year. I found it to be an interesting class for information on applying for jobs, graduate positions and interviewing. It was a 3 day intensive course and I was surprised that no one else from the information and knowledge management course were not doing it.

My first 3 week industrial placement was at Castlemaine Secondary College Library. I really enjoyed this experience and I now understand how important it is to complete the industry placements as it help with networking and future roles. After completing my placement at Castlemaine Secondary College Library I have decided that later in my career I would like to pursue a position in a School Library in a rural area of Australia. It would be a nice way to finish off my career.
